    BUSINESS STORY

    Why this business was started

I own and operate a B&M tea shop Good Life Tea and I opened MostlyTea as a second location. I was presented an opportunity to open in a mall. I leveraged my 5 years of experience with GLT and created a turn key website which incorporated all my experience. I lost my lease in the mall in September 2018. I have not opened a new B&M location.

The reason of selling this business

I lost my lease at the mall and Mostly Tea closed. I kept the online business open. as I made some website improvements. I decided to concentrate on growing Good Life Tea which is a my core business. Growing both brands is too much work for me, as I have other interests.

What's involved in running this business

Promote website via ads, SEO work, blogging, and social media. Filling orders of tea - packing tea, boxing and shipping. Order stock- tea, tea ware, packing materials. Implement the turn key procedures which are easy to do.

Other details about profit: Chart below shows in store sales when the B&M was open. Tea is bought in bulk and repackaged and branded. 5x markup. Free shipping is only available for $50 + orders. Customers pay actual shipping costs. Shipping is less than 10% of the total sale on $50+ orders. Credit card fraud has not been a problem. (Tea drinkers are honest people. LOL) $1 samples are hot sellers. Customers love these and will make large orders from the $1 samples. Google Shopping CPC is $.65. Very profitable. Customer lifetime spend is high because there is brand loyalty with tea. Tea has a perception that high price is high quality. Teavana left the market creating opportunity for high end tea.

    SELLER‘S ADVICE

    How to grow this business

I would do blog posts 2 or 3 times a week. Resume Google ads. Sell in other Shopify sales channels. Build out Klaviyo email marketing. Build SMS marketing. Use Recurrpost to automate FB, Instagram and Google Business posts. Write longer descriptions for products to improve SEO. Get a professional theme from Out of the Sandbox. Collect User Generated Content. Start a tea of the month club subscription service. Push matcha which is trending hot. Find a B&M location to grow brand and sales. Location in a tourist area would be great to build online opportunity for tourists to re-order.

    Skills to have

No specific knowledge of tea is needed. Web skills a huge plus.

I opened Good Life Tea 5 + years ago. Its a B&M store with an online store. I self taught myself SEO, social media, apps and all aspects of my business. I put all this learning into MostlyTea.com. Unfortunately, I lost my lease in the mall and I lost interest in this project. I did not have enough capital and energy to build a new Mostly Tea B&M store. I will continue to focus on my primary business - [REDACTED] and my many other interests.

    DESCRIPTION

    General description

This is a US based drop shipping store in the indoor gardening niche working solely with US based suppliers, shipping from the USA. No Aliexpress drop shipping going on here at all! It has made it's first sale in September 2017. I have paused it since October 2018 since I didn't have the time to work on it anymore and had been neglecting advertising.

The store has made $17,969.53 dollars in revenue over 12 months, and has made $2,560.77 in net profit over 12 months or 14.25% of the revenue. It has an average monthly net profit for these 12 months of $213.40 and the average order value is $958.14. This means there have only been 24 orders an 6 of them were canceled which translates to very little work or basically little to no customer service involved.

Currently the store is set up following the Drop Ship Lifestyle course, and running under the Shoptimized Theme, the license can be transferred to the buyer or I can switch to the free DSL theme or any other free shopify theme of your choice.

The store has an average of 605 visitors per month over these 12 months. The website gets it’s paid traffic only from Google Shopping Ads and did a little bit of Facebook retargeting. I have spent an average of $100 a month on paid advertising. This accounts for 455 monthly visitors on average or 77.23% of the total monthly traffic.

About 32 people came from organic traffic, accounting for 5.35% of the traffic, but this could definitely grow a lot with the right content marketing.

12.80% of the traffic comes directly to the store, 0.07% from emails, 2.47% referrals and 1.77% social media traffic.

According to SEMrush data there are: - 7 keywords or phrases ranking 1-20 on Google - Another 70 KW's ranking lower

What comes with the store: -The store has 299 products, many but not all have custom descriptions.

-It has 35 brands listed coming from 7 USA based suppliers and 1 Distributor, whom all ship in between 1-4 business days, depending on the size of the product.

-The store averages only 2 orders per month so very little work but of course you'd want to get this up! In 12 months there have been 0 returns, and 0 damaged products. Suppliers are great to work with!

-An email list with 129 emails

    -A Pinterest (5 followers) & Facebook (92 likes) profiles

-The store has 8 gold suppliers and 7 out of 8 enforce MAP. All products are shipped under the suppliers’ shipping accounts.

-The margins offered by the suppliers range from 20 to 40% before shipping.

Reasons for selling: -I’m working hard on a new business venture, and don't have the time to put into this store. Didn't even find much time to put it up for sale but finally managed to get all the numbers in and list it on Exchange. It has been on pause since October and would be silly to just let it sit there while someone else could build it out into an active store again. -I own another dropshipping store and together with the new business and my volunteer work I simply don't have the time and energy for this one. I prefer to focus solely on my other store and the new business.

Improvements: -There is a lot of potential on this store, starting from organic traffic generation by way of content marketing, to simply wanting to invest more on PPC. I’ve been very conservative, and a larger PPC investment can lead to more revenue and profit.

-There are tons more products to add from suppliers I already locked in, but I simply didn't have the time for it.

-The whole managing of the website is pretty hands-off since not much customer service is required, fulfilling orders is a piece of cake, and there’s always stock.

-Email marketing is a huge possibility I have honestly never truly explored on this store.

-Social Media marketing is another potential area to explore which I have put 0 effort into.

    Store was valued at: $6,303

    Open to reasonable offers.

Why should someone buy this store?

Someone who is passionate about indoor gardening or growing medicinal herbs can grow this store to it's full potential. Especially if you live in the USA and are an indoor grower then this store could be of great value to your hobby and life. It can turn into a passive side business which can fund your growing ventures exponentially.

It has been profitable with very little to no effort so with some attention and time put into it, it will definitely grow much bigger.

How can the future owner improve the business?

    • If you live in the US and are an indoor grower you can make your own product reviews and use the products yourself.

    • Adding more products: There are still a ton of products to be added to the store from the suppliers I already have and many many more new ones can be acquired to add to the store and grow the product catalog.

    • There is huge potential in the SEO for the store, since there are quite a lot of terms that can be ranked higher with additional content marketing which can gain a lot of organic traffic. I have literally done 0 content marketing, no blog posts no videos.

What work have you put into the store?

It takes me from 0-2 hours a week tops of work. I have no VA, yet it’s an easy store to manage, hardly anyone calls for customer service apart from that one big sale I made and that had to be paid in installments. Most people just ordered without any communication pre-sale.

My time of work gets divided into: -Processing orders -Bookkeeping

Other details about profit: The actual profit shows a bit less than what it could have been, since we weren't able to be on Shopify Payments in the beginning and were charged 2% on top of what stripe was charging us for credit card fees. This amounts to an extra $127.60 that would have been profit if you are a US citizen with SSN number that is able to be on shopify payments from the beginning. We also had very weird google shopping clicks in the last months. of running PLA's. Google claims it's normal user behavior, but we can't believe that. But google is king and we can't do anything about that. 1 height extension accessory product went from 64 clicks ( most it had in almost 1 year of running) in July 2018 for $10.50 to a whopping 1242 clicks for more than $205. I wasn't paying attention to our ad campaigns, unfortunately. Ad spend had been around a $100 or less the previous months but suddenly because of Google's quirks it tripled the ad spend to $305 in 1 month time! Ads for this height extension had been running for months, along with other height extensions for different sized grow tents and they never received much clicks at all. So we simply can't believe that all of a sudden in 1 months time 1200 people clicked that add cause they were interested in that height extension. After all, there were 0 sales for that extension, nor any other product in that month. But the Indian google reps just kept beating about the bush and were no help at all. To make a long story short, I have still added that extra ad spend into the profit calculation, but if this didn't happen then the monthly average would have been $235. Lesson for me to be on top of the advertising and not neglect it.

    SELLER‘S ADVICE

    How to grow this business

I would do a lot of content marketing and was actually planning to move to a US legalized state and work out deals with suppliers to get test models shipped to my house and then use them and make video reviews to be able to put on youtube for SEO juice. This would really help growing the store and get better organic rankings. It would also help with trust with buyers since you establish yourself as an authority in the niche and would result in better conversion rates. Apart from that you could also test products for your own grows and possibly get good deals on them from suppliers when you decide to keep certain LED lights after the test period.

My life has taken a different turn though and I am not able to make the move to the USA at this point.

    Skills to have

This store can also be run by someone who isn't a grower themselves, but it definitely helps to have the passion or knowledge.

Apart from that I also started a new business venture so I simply don't have the time to put into this store anymore.
